National League Wins Old-Timers Game
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Former Chicago Cub Don Kessinger scored on a Jim Stewart single Sunday to ignite a five-run third inning that sent the National League to a 7-2 victory over the American League in an Old-timers game at Greer Stadium.
The NL scored two runs in the first inning of the three-inning game when Jim Hickman, formerly of the Cubs, drove in Stewart, a retired Cincinnati Red, and Al Oliver, who played with several major league teams.
The AL tied the score, 2-2, in the third when former New York Yankee Bobby Richardson hit a two-run single to score former Texas Ranger Davey Nelson and Jake Gibbs, a former catcher with the Yankees.
Former Expo Chuck Taylor was the winning pitcher. Wayne Garland, current pitching coach for the American Assn.’s Nashville Sounds, took the loss.
