Culver City : Sponsor for Billboard Sought
Culver City is looking for a corporate sponsor willing to pay to replace the obsolete electronic billboard at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in exchange for having its name scrolled across the board every few minutes for the next eight to 10 years.
The billboard, at Overland Avenue and Culver Boulevard, is a Times Square-style moving strip that announces recreation programs and community events at the auditorium, according to Syd Kronenthal, director of the Human Services Department. Replacing it will cost about $60,000. The City Council has allocated the funds to replace the sign and will recoup the money from the sponsor. The council will use the money to restore staffing and programs, such as night supervisors for five parks, the Youth Employment Program and summer sports clinics that were cut in June, Kronenthal said.
He said several corporations have expressed interest.
