Encinitas
The trials of two teen-age athletes accused of attacking a college student were postponed Friday to give lawyers time to review the evidence.
The trial of Erik Heipt, 19, was put off until Tuesday, and the trial of Jeff Penacho, 18, was delayed until Sept. 4.
Both are June graduates of San Dieguito High School in Encinitas. Heipt’s trial was put off for only a few days because he will be attending the University of Colorado in the fall. Penacho will be attending Palomar College in San Marcos.
Heipt and Penacho are two of seven current or former San Dieguito High School athletes who have been charged in connection with three separate attacks.
Heipt and Penacho will stand trial in Vista Municipal Court on charges of misdemeanor battery; the five others face trial in juvenile court.
