7,900 GM Trucks, Buses Recalled Over Brakes

DETROIT — General Motors Corp. is recalling 7,900 Chevrolet and GMC medium-duty trucks and school buses built during the 1983-87 model years for modification of front brake systems.
Company spokesman Don Postma said Thursday that in some cases severe brake system “chatter” may cause mounting brackets to develop cracks. A fractured bracket would cause a loss of braking ability at that wheel, and steering could be restricted if broken brake components interfered with the steering system.
The company said it was not aware of any accidents or injuries as a result of the potential defect.
