Tradition Slides as New Fire Stations Do Without Poles
Another tradition slides into history.
By September, the Los Angeles Fire Department will have opened six new fire stations and nary a one will have a fireman’s pole.
Firemen had complained that openings from the poles let exhaust fumes into their kitchens and upstairs living quarters. So now they’ll have to run down the stairs when the alarm sounds.
The new stations will be located at 5023 W. Washington Blvd., 5821 West 3rd St., 326 N. Virgil Ave., 1962 Brooklyn Ave., 1410 Cypress Ave. and 1601 S. Grand Ave. in San Pedro.
