Support for Black Muslim Minister Louis Farrakhan

I’d like to join Darren Haylock of Reseda who stood up for Farrakhan (Letters, Aug. 15). I, too, believe Farrakhan is a bold and brilliant black man who is genuinely concerned with helping his people lift themselves out of an oppressed state imposed on them by an overwhelmingly racist system.

If the Jewish community is so concerned with justice and fairness, they might start with their Jewish brothers and sisters in Hollywood who are spewing forth some of the most stereotypical, demeaning and blatantly racist movies and television programming imaginable.

Negative portrayals in media are more damaging than any imagined slight in a single speech since most media images are repeated in various forms over and over for generations, thereby cementing in consciousness any number of desired perceptions and mentalities.
