Orange : Arson Suspected in Fire at Farm Supply Firm
A blaze at Orange County Farm Supply that firefighters suspect may have been started Saturday by an arsonist destroyed a large stack of wooden palates but was controlled before it reached potentially toxic fertilizers and pesticides, a fire department spokesman said.
The alarm was sounded at 7:13 p.m. Seven fire units plus a hazardous-materials team were sent to the firm at 1826 W. Chapman Ave., mainly as a precaution, Battalion Chief Jim Richardson said.
The fire was quickly controlled, but firefighters remained at the scene for five hours to make certain no chemicals had been affected, he said.
