EXHIBIT TO SHOW WORKS OF UCI GRADS
Work by 12 graduates of UC Irvine’s Fine Arts Program will be shown to inaugurate a new community art gallery opening Sept. 17 at the Art Store, 4040 Campus Drive in Newport Beach.
The show, “UC Irvine Circa 1980,” will be on view until Oct. 31.
Exhibiting in a variety of mediums are artists Kim Abeles, Russ Crotty, Sandra Rowe, Tom Dowling, Jim Kenny, Cody Bustamante, Helen Seigal, Frank Dixon, Jeanine Breaker, Deborah Feldman, Jan Taylor and Steve Sprague. All graduated from UCI in the early 1980s.
The exhibit has been curated by Mike McGee, coordinator for the Laguna Art Museum in Laguna Beach.
The new gallery is one of eight Art Store venues in California and Colorado.
“We open the galleries to offer local community members a place where they can show their work,” said Heidi Gatej, a spokeswoman for Standard Brands Paint Co., parent company of the Art Stores, in Torrance.
The Newport Beach gallery hours will be 8:30 a.m to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
A reception for the artists will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 17. It is free and open to the public.
