A Sylmar man was arrested on suspicion of drunk flying after his single-engine plane made erratic approaches to Whiteman Airport in Pacoima and belly-landed with the wheels up. James Lee McCoy, 46, was not injured. His plane sustained little damage, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Ken Dionne reported. Dionne said officers smelled alcohol when they ran to the aircraft to see if McCoy was hurt. He said they found a .25-caliber pistol in the plane as well as a small amount of what they believed was marijuana.
