Governor OKs Camarillo Land Sale to Establish Crisis Center
Gov. George Deukmejian on Wednesday signed into law a measure that authorizes the sale or lease of 22.8 acres at Camarillo State Hospital for a children’s crisis center.
The bill would allow Ventura County to buy or lease the state property and, in turn, sublease it to Youth Connection, a private, nonprofit group. Youth Connection is seeking to build a home for 70 to 85 abused, neglected and abandoned children.
The bill was sponsored by Sen. Ed Davis (R-Valencia) at the request of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. The board has voiced concern about growing numbers of abused children in the county and about limited facilities to care for them.
