Gulf Convoy Nears Mine Area

MANAMA, Bahrain — In the 10th convoy of reflagged vessels, U.S. warships today escorted a Kuwaiti tanker through the Persian Gulf toward a shipping channel where the Navy spotted at least three floating mines, gulf-based shipping executives said.
Meanwhile, three British minesweepers began searching for explosives in the channel off Dubai about 100 miles from the Strait of Hormuz, the gulf’s only outlet, sources said.
