Overlooked in the flurry of news stories about television’s coverage of the 6.1 temblor that rocked the Southland on Oct. 1 was KSCI Channel 18’s live, 2 1/2 hours of multilingual earthquake newscast. Anchored by programming director Yuko Sakamoto Hayakawa, KSCI’s “After Shock” included the commentary of Cerritos Mayor Daniel Wong and reports in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Hindi, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Armenian and Farsi.
