Science / Medicine : Mexico Quake Prediction
Seismologists at a Mexico City conference said an earthquake measuring at least 7 on the Richter scale can be expected within 10 to 15 years along the Pacific coast of Guerrero state near Acapulco. The quake would be substantially less devastating than the one that struck Mexico City in September, 1985, the scientists argue.
Krishnan Singh, a researcher in the geophysics institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, said the prediction was based on the lack of substantial movement since 1911 at a key point in a plate along the Guerrero coast
