“Lady and the Tramp.” Disney. $29.95. One of Disney’s most endearing animated features, “Lady and the Tramp” plays excellent songs (by Sonny Burke and Peggy Lee) and comic scenes against a story that touches deeply felt emotions. The animation itself is so polished and realistic that some sequences are virtually indistinguishable from live-action footage of dogs. This 1955 film was the first animated feature made in CinemaScope, and the cassette should have been released in “letterbox” format. As nearly a third of the image is cut off, the dogs often have their hindquarters amputated by the edge of the screen. Despite this disrespectful handling, “Lady and the Tramp” is certain to be a popular family gift this holiday season. Information: (818) 840-1597. *** 1/2
