Orange County Community College Roundup : Golden West Powers Past Cerritos
Dionne Powers had eight kills and six blocks Wednesday night to lead Golden West College, the top-ranked team in the state, to a three-game sweep over Cerritos, 15-12, 15-10, 15-3, in a South Coast Conference volleyball match at Golden West.
Barrie Dafforn, a returning all-conference player along with Powers, had 35 assists for Golden West (16-1, 6-0).
In Orange Empire Conference volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Jennifer Deiley had 18 kills and Karen Nickel had 16 kills to lead OCC at home, 15-5, 15-9, 15-10. OCC is 4-4, 2-1. Rancho Santiago is 4-5, 1-2.
Riverside 3, Saddleback 0--Riverside defeated Saddleback, 15-12, 15-12, 17-15, at Saddleback. Riverside is 10-3, 2-1. Saddleback is 3-6, 1-2.
In nonconference water polo:
Saddleback 17, Cerritos 10--Keith Shore had five goals to lead Saddleback, the third-ranked team in Southern California, at Cerritos. Bill Egan and Denny Bethke had two goals for Saddleback (19-3).
In South Coast Conference wrestling:
Golden West 27, Mt. San Antonio 24--Golden West (4-2, 2-1) trailed, 24-15, going into its last two matches, but Rich Brenton (190 pounds) and heavyweight Shawn Ruter pinned their opponents at Mt. SAC.
