La Jolla’s No. 2 Doubles Team Wins Match to Hand Bishop’s Its First Loss of Season
SAN DIEGO — Johanna Serror’s return winner provided the La Jolla High School girls’ tennis team with the only point it needed to defeat Bishop’s Wednesday in the completion of a match that started last Friday but was postponed because of rain on match point.
Serror and her partner, Tara Walsh, were leading the No. 2 doubles match Friday, 6-7, 7-6, 5-2 (15-40 in the eighth game of the third set) when rained halted the match.
Bishop’s (14-1) Tiffany Hawkins and Sibylle Zilligans were serving.
La Jolla (10-2) led the team competition, 4-3, and the winner of the No. 2 doubles match--worth 1 1/2 points--would decide the outcome. Wednesday, Serror returned Hawkins’ first serve to end the match.
