U.S. Earmarks $24 Million to Fight Youth Drug Abuse

WASHINGTON — Health and Human Services Secretary Otis R. Bowen announced Friday that $24 million would be awarded to 131 projects aimed at reaching young people at the greatest risk for alcohol and drug problems.
The grants, including $3 million for California, will be administered through the Office for Substance Abuse Prevention, Bowen said.
