Community College Roundup : Shore Scores 4 to Lead Saddleback
Keith Shore scored four goals Tuesday to pace Saddleback College’s water polo team to a 16-7 Orange Empire League victory over Palomar.
Saddleback, which clinched the conference title Friday with a victory over San Diego Mesa, remains undefeated (13-0) in conference play and is 21-3 overall. The Gauchos have earned an automatic berth in the Southern California regional tournament, Nov. 13-14 at Long Beach’s Belmont Plaza Pool.
Dave Knox scored three times for Saddleback, and Bill Egan, John Salvino and Dave Delgado each scored twice. Gaucho goalies Vic Bakkila and Sean Cleaver combined for 22 saves.
Palomar (12-11, 8-5) was led by Brian Williams with three goals.
In other water polo action:
Orange Coast 12, Cypress 10--OCC held off a five-goal fourth-quarter spurt by Cypress to improve its Orange Empire League record to 5-6, 9-13 overall. The Pirates’ leading scorer was Chris Duncan with four goals. David Lee and Ray Greene each contributed two goals.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Cypress 4, L.A. Harbor 1--Bill Montgomery paced Cypress (4-10-2, 3-7-2) with two goals and Steve Buzzetta and Keith Lewis scored one each. L.A. Harbor is 4-7-2, 4-6-2.
Rancho Santiago 3, Orange Coast 1--Rancho Santiago (12-3-1, 9-2-1) was led by Aaron Wright, Jose Guerrero and Richie Pilon. Goalie Eduardo Soto had seven saves. John Boveta scored for OCC (9-6-2, 7-4-1).
In South Coast Conference:
Golden West 5, Long Beach 2--The Rustlers (13-1-4, 4-1-2) avenged their only loss of the season in this rematch.
