A dubious-distinction record is about to be set in Kern County. When a First Interstate Bank branch in southwest Bakersfield was held up this week by a bandit who escaped with an undetermined amount of cash, it was the 29th bank robbery in the county this year. That equaled the record for bank robberies in the county in all of 1986. Police and sheriff’s deputies said 28 of this year’s bank heists have been in Bakersfield, and the other one was in Ridgecrest.
