Tustin Reaches Playoffs With Victory
Chris Gankema scored three touchdowns to lead Tustin High School to a 21-13 Sea View League victory over University Friday night in front of 1,000 at Tustin High School.
The victory qualifies the Tillers (6-3-1, 3-1-1) for the Central Conference playoffs. Tustin finished tied with Saddleback for second place.
Gankema gave the Tillers the lead in the first quarter with a two-yard touchdown run. He scored again in the second quarter, again on a two-yard run, as Tustin built a 14-0 lead.
University (1-4, 4-6) came back on a two-yard touchdown run by Gary Smarr in the second quarter. A 20-yard field goal by Jim Roberson cut the deficit to 14-10 in the third quarter.
Gankema gave the Tillers some breathing room with a five-yard touchdown run for a 21-10 lead in the third quarter.
The Trojans closed the gap on a 40-yard field goal by Roberson in the fourth quarter.
