West Virginia, which almost upset No. 6-ranked Syracuse on Saturday night, accepted an offer to play in the Sun Bowl on Christmas Day after Ohio State declined the bid, school officials said.
The Mountaineers, who finished the season 6-5, will play Oklahoma State, which was 9-2 and lost only to No. 1 Nebraska and No. 2 Oklahoma.
West Virginia lost to Syracuse, 32-31, Saturday night as the Sugar Bowl-bound Orangemen had to score a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final 10 seconds.
Each Sun Bowl team is promised about $750,000.
