Local News in Brief : 1 Killed, 3 Hurt as Cars Collide Near Airport
A Canoga Park man was killed, and three people were injured early Sunday when two cars collided near Van Nuys Airport, authorities said.
A vehicle driven by Michael Sigler, 28, was traveling south on Valjean Avenue when he drove through a stop sign at Vanowen Street and struck another car, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Art Haversat said. That car was sent crashing into an apartment building, he said.
One of the passengers in the second car was killed, Haversat said. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.
The car’s other two occupants, Fernando Leon, 30, and Jose Alberto, 22, both of Van Nuys, were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank with numerous injuries, Haversat said. Both were listed in stable condition.
Sigler also was taken to St. Joseph after being arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, police said. He was listed in serious condition.
