Soccer Roundup : Capistrano Valley Girls Edge Laguna Hills, 2-1

Becky Linhart scored with 40 seconds remaining to lift Capistrano Valley High School over Laguna Hills, 2-1, in a girls’ soccer match in the Irvine Tournament at Capistrano Valley Wednesday.

Capistrano Valley (3-0) is ranked sixth in the Southern Section 4-A. Laguna Hills (2-1) is ranked second in the 3-A.

Jill Linhart, Becky’s sister, scored in the first half and goalie Pam Gladden had 10 saves for Capistrano Valley.

In girls’ nonleague games:

Los Alamitos 2, South Torrance 1--Jaycee Leitner scored on an assist from Meghan Fife with three minutes left to lift Los Alamitos at home.

South Torrance took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Los Alamitos tied the score, 1-1, on a goal by Jenny Reyes 16 minutes into the second half. Karen Kolodziej assisted on Reyes’ goal.

Edison 1, El Toro 1--Shawn Viloria scored for Edison at Serrano Intermediate School in El Toro.

In boys’ nonleague games:

Servite 2, Marina 0--Rhett Harty and Mike Howell scored and goalie Tom Neito had five saves for Servite (3-0) at Marina.

Brea-Olinda 2, Orange 2--Carlos Martinez scored two goals for Orange, but Brea-Olinda scored twice to tie at Orange.

J.R. Ochs’ goal tied the score, 1-1, 38 minutes into the game for Brea-Olinda (2-2-2).

Martinez then scored 18 minutes into the second half as Orange (3-1-1) took a 2-1 lead.

David Stark tied the score, 2-2, with one minute left for Brea-Olinda.

El Modena 3, Eisenhower 0--Ron Murrietta, Rene Gutierez and Mark Gonzales each scored to lead the Vanguards (2-0) at El Modena.

Goalkeeper Mark Reddick made seven saves for Eisenhower (2-2). El Modena goalies Jay Eastman (five saves), Mario Tapia (four), and Brady Whittingham (one) combined for the shutout.

Costa Mesa 6, Santiago 3--Matt Martinez scored three goals to lead the Mustangs at Santiago.

It was Costa Mesa’s first victory since February, 1985.

Ryan Giles, Doug Smith and Jason Trask each scored a goal for the Mustangs (1-2), and Ross Simones made eight saves.
