Contract Approved for Landslide Work
The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council, sitting as the city’s Redevelopment Agency, has awarded the W. E. McKnight construction company a contract to complete the second phase of a $2-million project to halt the Portuguese Bend landslide.
The McKnight bid was $1.48 million. The council authorized an additional $118,230 for contingencies.
The project calls for the relocation of part of Palos Verdes Drive South to its original right of way and the removal of about 500,000 cubic yards of earth from the top of the slide to the foot of it.
Work on the project is expected to begin in January, said Charles Abbott, city public works consultant in charge of the stabilization effort.
