Italian Drug Toll Soars

ROME — Italy has recorded a sharp increase in the number of deaths from drug overdose, according to newly released official statistics.
A total of 440 Italians died as a result of drug overdoses in the first 11 months of 1987, almost double the 262 deaths from drugs recorded for all of 1986.
