University of California President David P. Gardner...
University of California President David P. Gardner has been elected to the board of directors of Irvine-based Fluor Corp., an international engineering, construction and natural resource management company. Gardner, 54, replaces Sibrand Jurriaans, 70, who retired after serving on Fluor’s board for 24 years. Before heading the nine-campus UC system in 1983, Gardner spent 10 years as president of the University of Utah. He has held administrative positions in education for 30 years. “Given UC’s broad bank of technological research, Dr. Gardner brings valuable insight to Fluor’s board,” said David S. Tappan Jr., Fluor chairman and chief executive. “As head of a multibillion-dollar academic enterprise, Dr. Gardner is a well-respected member of both business and academic communities on statewide and national levels.” Gardner received a doctorate in higher education from UC Berkeley.
