Lakeside
A 1-year-old Lakeside girl died from a shotgun wound Friday in an apparent accidental shooting, authorities said.
Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived at the home of Elmer and Jean Mendoza, in the 12500 block of Laurel St., at 9:32 a.m. and found the baby, Andrea, who had been shot in the body, with her parents and her 3-year-old sister, authorities said.
The shooting was “the apparent result of a firearm being left unattended,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Manny Castillo. Homicide detectives were uncertain who fired the weapon, he added.
The toddler was taken by Life Flight to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she died during surgery, Castillo said.
An autopsy was scheduled for today, said Deputy Coroner George Dickason.
