Elections by District
District elections for the San Diego City Council will make our votes count. With district elections we will get elected representatives who respond to our neighborhood needs. The majority of City Council members turn a deaf ear to San Diegans’ desire to slow growth, clean air, parks, jobs, housing and development in places that need it.
Our present system of at-large elections demands exorbitantly expensive campaigns in which candidates become obligated to big money interests. Congress, county supervisors, state legislators are all elected by district. These representatives are then responsible to their districts and are accountable to voters who elect them. This is the American way of representative government.
Special interests will not have as easy a time controlling City Hall when we have a fair system of electing council persons by district.
