On Christmas Day, South Coast Plaza security counted 5,000 cars cruising through the parking lot of Orange County’s premier mall. Ordinarily, that would be nothing to brag about, but the mega-mall was closed that day.
“Maybe they got bored with the turkey and came to do a little shopping. . . . Or maybe their cars are (set) on automatic pilot to turn off on Bristol,” said Maura Eggan, marketing director.
Either way, at least some folks apparently weren’t discouraged. Seventy-five thousand cars came to the mall Dec. 26.
