Boys’ Basketball Roundup : Martin’s 31 Lead Whittier Christian
Whittier Christian took a 23-9 first-quarter lead and went on to defeat Orange Lutheran, 85-56, in an Olympic League boys’ basketball game Tuesday night at Whittier Christian.
Erik Martin scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Heralds. Whittier Christian (7-4 overall, 2-0 in league play) held a 41-21 lead at halftime.
Daryl Cole led Orange Lutheran (6-6, 1-2) with 14 points.
In the Olympic League:
Brethren 70, Capistrano Valley Christian 47--Capistrano Valley Christian scored to open the fourth quarter to cut Brethren’s lead to 49-43 but was outscored in the quarter, 21-6. DeAndre Brown scored 27 points and Mike Coffin 26 for Brethren.
Sophomore center Kirk Riddle scored 16 points to lead Capistrano Valley (6-6, 1-2) before fouling out at the end of the third quarter. Forward Shane Meiner added 10 for Capistrano Valley Christian which shot just 30% (17-56) from the field.
In the Academy League:
Leffingwell Christian 40, Liberty Christian 36--Rick Hills scored 12 points for Liberty Christian, but it wasn’t enough. David McKenna’s 19 points led Leffingwell Christian. Liberty Christian is 6-5, 2-4. Leffingwell Christian is 3-2 in league play.
