Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al Faisal left the Soviet Union on Saturday after urging that Moscow join efforts to force Iranian compliance with a U.N. call for a Gulf War cease-fire, the official Tass news agency said.

Saud, an envoy of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council that is currently chaired by Saudi Arabia, delivered a message from King Fahd while in Moscow that suggested the U.N. Security Council meet to discuss Iran’s rejection of a cease-fire. He was due to travel on to Washington with similar proposals, Soviet press reports said.
