Campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire
Reflecting on the Iowa caucuses is not so much a dissection of the “seven dwarfs” or what Pat Robertson did to Vice President George Bush as it is a reaction to our nation the “fat cow!” We are a happy and contented country--a nation with low unemployment (Jesse Jackson’s arithmetic aside), peace (Iran-Contra come-on!) a big deficit (who cares, we’re all in debt). In short, right now there is a “chicken in every pot,” the pot that votes! Our biggest problem is what to do on Saturday night. Candidates don’t seem “fired-up” because there is no fire--no real issues that concern Middle America right now. We all just want to be left alone to cheer our Super Bowl heroes, have a beer on Saturday night and get more of what we already have.
