Local News in Brief : Man Held as Rape Suspect
Police arrested a man in connection with 11 rapes and attempted rapes in the South Los Angeles area hours after an attack on a teen-ager that was linked to the series, authorities said Friday.
Somesha Shinda, 35, was booked on suspicion of rape and held in lieu of $100,000 bail after police arrested him as he drove away from his home, Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Hom said.
A 13-year-old girl was attacked Thursday morning in the Lennox area and resulting information led detectives to Shinda, Hom said. Shinda’s car was similar to cars described by several of the victims in the series of attacks that started in September, he said.
The attacks have occurred in South Los Angeles and Inglewood and have involved girls age 10 to 15, he said.
