Speeding Car Kills 82-Year-Old Reseda Woman, Police Say
An 82-year-old Reseda woman was killed Friday when the car in which she was riding was hit by an automobile racing another vehicle, Los Angeles police said.
The purported driver of the racing vehicle, Steven Ashley, 22, of Reseda, was arrested on suspicion of murder, police said. He was being held at Van Nuys Jail. Bail had not been set.
Doris Bracket died shortly after the 5:10 p.m. accident, which occurred at Louise Avenue and Victory Boulevard in Reseda, said Sgt. Jay Taylor. Her husband, Gerald Bracket, 78, was turning left onto Louise Avenue when his car was hit on the passenger side by an auto driven by Ashley, Taylor said.
Taylor said witnesses told police that Ashley was racing another car when he hit the couple’s automobile. Taylor said Ashley’s car was traveling more than 60 m.p.h.
Gerald Bracket was listed in serious condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
