A Cleveland rock station voted the best in the country in a poll conducted by Rolling Stone Magazine has admitted to stuffing the ballot box, adding it has been doing so for years. Lonnie Gronek, general manager of WMMS-FM, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper his station bought 800 copies of the issue of the magazine carrying the annual ballot and had staff, family and friends send them in. He made the admission after the newspaper uncovered an inner-office memo describing the practice last week. The station got about 1,000 votes in the poll and was named the best in the country in a large market for the ninth straight year. The newspaper said the magazine had no comment on the affair.
