POLITICS 88 : CAMPAIGN ’88 : Texas Poll Favorites
A poll published Sunday suggested Dukakis and Gephardt have the lead among Democrats in Texas, the biggest Super Tuesday state. On the Republican side, Bush had a clear lead, with Dole a distant second.
The poll was conducted for the Houston Chronicle and the Dallas Morning News.
Among 301 likely Democratic primary voters surveyed, Dukakis had 22%; Gephardt 21%; Jackson 12%; Gore, 10%; Hart, 8%; and Simon 1%.
Among Republicans, Bush had the support of 60% of the 298 likely Republican primary voters surveyed. Dole had 14%; Robertson 8%, and New York Rep. Jack Kemp 3%. Fourteen percent were undecided.
The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 6 percentage points.
