College Roundup : Gerakos Gets 200th Victory as UCI Coach
Freshman outfielder Mike Goodcase was 3 for 5 to lead UC Irvine to a 10-8 nonconference baseball victory over Cal Lutheran Wednesday at Anteater Field.
Irvine is 18-13-1, the team’s best start since 1981, when the Anteaters were 19-13. The win was Coach Mike Gerakos’ 200th victory in his eight-year career at Irvine. He is 200-203-7.
Goodcase had one RBI; teammates Stacy Parker and Al Rodriguez had two hits each, and Jeff Oberdank and John Seeburger each hit a triple.
Freshman pitcher Steve May picked up his first win of the season with 4 innings of relief. May gave up six hits and one earned run and struck out one.
In Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. softball:
Cal State Long Beach 7-4, Cal State Fullerton 0-0--Pitchers Diane Lewis and Annette Gonzales led Cal State Long Beach to a sweep at Fullerton. It was the first time Fullerton has been swept since 1984, and the first time the Titans have lost a doubleheader at Fullerton.
