Hart’s Scott a Finalist for Job at Buena
Hart High Coach Rick Scott has interviewed for the Buena High football job and is one of two finalists for the position, which will be filled Monday, Buena Principal Michael Shanahan said Wednesday.
Shanahan said that he will choose between Scott and Henry Moore, the coach at Edgewood High in West Covina. Scott and Henry are two of five head coaches who interviewed for the job, said Shanahan, who would not reveal the names of the others.
“We’re extremely pleased that that many people are interested in our program,” Shanahan said. “We do exceptionally well in all sports but we’ve been a little weak in football. We’re looking to build a football tradition. Now, I’ve got to make a tough choice.”
Scott has coached at Hart for four years, compiling a 41-9-2 record that includes 20 consecutive wins in Foothill League play and a Southern Section championship. Hart won the Northwestern Conference title in 1986.
“It’s outstanding what he’s done at Hart,” Shanahan said.
Scott has said the job interests him because of his ties to Ventura County. Buena, a school in Ventura, competes in the Channel League.
Scott played quarterback at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks and taught at Newbury Park High for 10 years. He was an assistant at Newbury Park and Moorpark College before taking the Hart job.
The Buena job opened when Mike Olgy resigned as coach in January after a 2-8 season.
