Former Kansas City shortstop Buddy Biancalana signed again with the Royals and will play for their minor league team at Omaha. Biancalana called the Royals after he was released by the Atlanta Braves Tuesday.
“He called today and asked if we had an opening in Omaha,” Royal General Manager John Schuerholz said Wednesday. “We told him he could play in Omaha, that we needed some insurance, and he accepted.
“I guess he figured if he has to play in the minors, he might as well do it with us.”
Biancalana, a crowd favorite of the 1985 World Series when he had a .435 on-base percentage and had the winning hit in Game 5, was traded to the Houston Astros July 29.
He signed with Atlanta as a non-roster free agent Jan. 6.
