Advanced Micro Devices Inc., a semiconductor manufacturer based in Sunnyvale, Calif., reported first-quarter profit of $20 million, about double what analysts had expected. Sales were $284 million, about $10 million more than analysts had expected. For all of 1987, Advanced Micro earned $3 million on sales of $223 million.
