THE PREPS : Johnson Heads South All-Star Football Team
Bret Johnson, El Toro High School quarterback, heads the list of selections for the South team that will play in the 29th Orange County All-Star football game July 8 in Orange Coast College’s LeBard Stadium.
Johnson was named the state’s player of the year by Cal-Hi Sports of Sacramento after he led El Toro to its second consecutive Southern Conference title last fall. El Toro placed four players on the 35-man roster.
Among the running backs scheduled to play for South Coach Bob Johnson of El Toro is Robert Lee of Santa Ana, who two months ago announced that he was retiring from football. Reza Mehdizadeh of Fountain Valley, The Times’ lineman of the year, also was selected.
The North team, coached by Carl Sweet of El Dorado and Pat Mahoney of Villa Park, will be announced April 16.
