Roundup : Smith Throws 1-Hitter for Garden Grove
Stephanie Smith pitched a one-hitter as Garden Grove High School defeated Santiago, 6-1, Thursday in a Garden Grove League softball game at Garden Grove.
Smith (6-8, 4-2) struck out 14 batters.
Celeste Gordon went 2 for 3 and Gina DiMercurio had a triple in the sixth inning to lead Garden Grove (9-11 overall, 4-2 in league play).
Santiago is 0-6 in league play.
In Orange League golf:
Brea-Olinda 216, Magnolia 261--Jeff Banks shot a 35 to lead Brea-Olinda at Dad Miller Golf Course.
In Pacific Coast League golf:
Laguna Beach 240, Woodbridge 243--John Gilles and Matt O’Hara each shot five-over-par 41s to lead Laguna Beach (9-2, 6-0) at the Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course.
In South Coast League boys’ track and field:
Dana Hills 78, Irvine 44--Steve Nedregal ran a 9:46.05 in the 3,200 meters to lead host Dana Hills (6-0-1, 2-0-1).
In Sea View League volleyball:
Corona del Mar 3, Tustin 0--Clark Walton had 10 kills to lead host Corona del Mar to a 15-5, 15-1, 15-2 victory. John Hamilton had five digs for Corona del Mar (5-5, 3-1).
In nonleague volleyball:
Newport Harbor 3, Laguna Beach 1--Mike Curci had 31 kills to lead host Newport Harbor to a 15-13, 13-15, 15-10 victory. Newport Harbor is 5-2.
