Local News in Brief : Irvine : $50,000 Grant Awarded to Aid Abused Children
The Irvine Community Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Orangewood Children’s Foundation to help the county’s abused and neglected children.
William G. Steiner, executive director of the foundation, said the grant was the largest received since the foundation raised $8 million for construction of the Orangewood Children’s Home in Orange.
Steiner said the money will be used for preventing child abuse, recruiting and training foster parents, and providing grants and scholarships to former abused children who are no longer under the social services system.
The Irvine Community Foundation was founded by the Irvine Medical Center to provide contributions for health, educational and scientific projects in Orange County.
