Local News in Brief : Ex-Officer Gets 3 Years
A former Los Angeles policewoman who fatally shot a purported cocaine addict has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to three years in state prison.
Patricia Lockhart, 29, had been charged with murder, but in a plea bargain with prosecutors she was allowed to plead guilty in Los Angeles Superior Court to the lesser offense.
Lockhart, who was fired two weeks after the 1984 slaying for possessing a marijuana cigarette, was sentenced by Judge Candace Cooper. She was off duty when she shot Randy Carey, 38, in a Los Angeles grocery store parking lot.
