Local News in Brief : Garden Grove : Bus Passenger, 66, Steps Into Pickup’s Path, Dies
A 66-year-old man was fatally injured Friday morning when he got off a bus, stepped into heavy traffic and was hit by a pickup truck, police said.
Berwyn Racobs of Garden Grove suffered head injuries early Friday morning and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m, a deputy coroner said.
Garden Grove Police Lt. Ken Whitman said Racobs had just gotten off an Orange County Transit District bus on Harbor Boulevard south of Garden Grove Boulevard at 6:15 a.m. A southbound pickup driven by a 29-year-old Garden Grove man hit Racobs, throwing him 15 feet.
Paramedics examined Racobs at the scene, then took him to the medical center, said Whitman, adding that he did not know how fast the pickup was traveling.
The pickup truck’s driver was not cited or held pending further investigation, Whitman said.
