We Shouldn’t Allow Games’ Rules to Rule

Imagine the seventh game of the World Series decided by a balk call, or the Super Bowl played under protest because the instant replay broke down, or the NBA championship teetering on a technical foul for illegal defense, or the United States Open lost because someone saw a leaf fall on the winner’s backswing and telephoned the PGA rules committee only a day late.

Rules were meant to make the game fair, not to make it perfect. With this new influx of rules and revisions of rules, we are strangling competition and making politicians out of our athletes.

You know, in this country, a man running for president can garner 51% of the popular vote and lose the election. That is de rigueur for politics, not for sports. Put a collar on the rules and let the athletes decide for a change.
