Third Performance Added to Ronstadt Engagement
SAN DIEGO — A third show has been added to Linda Ronstadt’s early June engagement at the Civic Theatre. Tickets to the June 5 performance, the pop singer’s fifth appearance at the 3,000-seat downtown facility in less than three months, go on sale Monday.
The former country-rock singer will perform a program of traditional Mexican music, titled “Canciones de mi Padre,” supported by a mariachi troupe and the Ballet Folklorico de La Fonda.
Ronstadt’s first two concerts at the Civic, held in March, sold out three weeks in advance, said Ken Monzingo, publicist for promoter James M. Nederlander. That’s why Ronstadt was booked for a return visit June 3 and 4. And with those shows also faring well at the box office, Monzingo said, the decision was made to add another.
“It’s very, very rare for any pop artist to have that kind of a draw,” Monzingo said, adding that many more shows could have been booked for March, “but since she was on tour, we had to wait until some more dates were available.”
The show, directed and choreographed by the San Francisco Ballet’s Michael Smuin, is enjoying similar success all around the country, Monzingo said.
“It’s not a concert, it’s a show, a full stage production, with singers, dancers, visuals, great music, the whole bit,” he said.
The June 3 and 4 concerts start at 8 p.m., and the June 5 show begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are $22.50 and $25, and are available at the Civic Theatre box office or at all TicketMaster outlets.
