Continental Illinois Corp., the Chicago bank rescued from collapse in 1984, is recovering steadily and could shake off the yoke of Federal agency ownership in as little as six months, Chairman Thomas Theobald said. The bank is currently 68%-owned by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which acquired the stake as part of its bailout of the banking company. “We continue to believe that in the next 6 to 18 months circumstances are likely to come together, our earnings will be good and the markets will be good, so they can sell,” Theobald said in an interview.
