18 Killed in Clashes With Filipino Rebels

MANILA — At least 18 people were killed in scattered clashes during the weekend between guerrillas from the New People’s Army and government troops and police, the military said Sunday.
The dead included four policemen, who were ambushed by guerrillas in the southern Philippines late Saturday, and one government soldier who was killed in brief gun battle between troops and rebels in Isabela province, 180 miles north of Manila.
