Rod Davis, sailmaster for the New Zealand Challenge, said he was “quite happy” with the performance of the America’s Cup challenger boat after it tested the waters off San Diego for the first time. Davis declined to give an estimate on the top speed reached by the New Zealand, which had only one minor problem during the sail, when a jib sail partially ripped as it was being raised.
